Ornamental Horticulture

"Grow your future"

Welcome!

The program prepares students for employment in the propagation, care, and use of plants for ornamental purposes. It offers the opportunity to attain specialization in floral design, landscape contracing, landscape design, or landscape management.

Student internship programs provide opportunites to apply classroom theory to real world situations. Additional partnerships are being developed to expand the availability of learning opportunites in more areas of the industry.

The Desert Garden Center is a retail nursery on the West Charleston campus specializing in xeric landscape plants. Students are employed and provided experience in retail nursery management, plant propagation, and plant culture. The DGC also provides training for mentally challenged individuals through a partnership with Easter Seals Southern Nevada.

Greenhouse operations on the Henderson campus propagate much of the plant material sold at the DGC, providing employment and learning opportunities for students. The facility also provides native plants for restoration projects administered by the U.S. Fish & Wildlife Service and the Bureau of Land Management through contract growing agreements.
