The program prepares students for employment in the propagation, care,
and use of plants for ornamental purposes. It offers the opportunity to
attain specialization in floral design, landscape contracing, landscape
design, or landscape management. |

Student internship programs provide opportunites to apply classroom
theory to real world situations. Additional partnerships are being
developed to expand the availability of learning opportunites in more
areas of the industry. |

The Desert Garden Center is a retail nursery on the West Charleston
campus specializing in xeric landscape plants. Students are employed and
provided experience in retail nursery management, plant propagation, and
plant culture. The DGC also provides training for mentally challenged
individuals through a partnership with Easter Seals Southern Nevada.

Greenhouse operations on the Henderson campus propagate much of the
plant material sold at the DGC, providing employment and learning
opportunities for students. The facility also provides native plants for
restoration projects administered by the U.S. Fish & Wildlife Service
and the Bureau of Land Management through contract growing agreements.
