Basic Macintosh Operating System (Mac OS) Tasks (see OS X Basics)

The following tasks are the minimum essential for effective and efficient management of your electronic design projects and optimum operation on a Macintosh.

Make sure that you understand each procedure and how to accomplish it.

    • Turn on the Mac
    • Format a disk
    • Move a window
    • Close a window
    • Resize a window
    • Select a Printer from the Chooser
    • Open a second application
    • Close all applications
    • Open an application
    • Return to Finder without opening an application—then return to the application.
    • Copy a file from HD to external media
    • Copy a file from external media to HD
    • Move a file from one folder to another.
    • Create a new folder.
    • Delete a file.
    • Delete a folder.
    • Rename a file or folder.
    • Copy the contents from one floppy or Zip disk to another.
    • Print a file from the desktop.
    • Retrieve a file form the Trash.
    • Empty the trash
    • Use "Find File".
    • Lock or unlock a file using "Get Info"
    • View the contents of a window by name, size, kind.
    • Save a file
    • Create a folder
    • Eject a disk
    • Drop a file on the server.
    • Copy a file from the server to your disk.
    • Unfreeze the computer's monitor
    • Correctly shut down the Mac

    • Turn on the PC
    • Format a disk
    • Move a window
    • Close a window
    • Resize a window
    • Select a Printer
    • Open a second application

    • Return to Desktop within an application—then return to the application.
    • Copy a file from HD to external media
    • Copy a file from external media to HD
    • Move a file from one folder to another.
    • Create a new folder.
    • Delete a file.
    • Delete a folder.
