Instructions for emailing
What is email?

To sign up for web-based email service:

1. Launch a web browser (e.g. Netscape Navigator or Internet Explorer).
2. Go to a web site which offers free email (type that in the address box).
       MSN Hotmail (http://www.hotmail.com)
       Yahoo mail (http://www.yahoo.com)
       Lycos mail (http://mail.lycos.com//)
       Mail.com (http://www.mail.com)
       and dozens of others to choose from
3. Register at that site by following the directions on the screen.
4. You will get an address, a log-on name, and a password. Write them down.

To send or receive messages from your web-based email service:

1. Go to the web site that serves you (e.g. www.hotmail.com).
2. Type in your log-on name and password.
3. You are there.

An email (mailing) list is managed by an on-line resourse known as a listserv, which sends a copy of all messages it receives to every email account on a designated list.
To join a particular mailing list (your class's) on the CCSN Computer Graphics Program listserv, a user must SUBSCRIBE to it. Normally this is done simply by sending email to the listserv and asking it to place you on the list you want to be on.

1. Log onto your email service (hotmail.com or whatever you have).
2. Go to the CCSN Computer Graphics Program Email Lists page.
3. Follow the links and instructions.

You will get a confirmation that you have been added to the mailing list.

To send a message to a Computer Graphics Program mailing list:

1. Log onto your email service (hotmail.com or whatever you have)
2. In the TO: type in the email address of your list, which is the name of the list followed by the "@" symbol, followed by "csn.edu". (For example, to post something to the cg_events list send it to "cg_events@csn.edu"
   You must be a member of the list to send a message to it.
