Email

Emoticons are often used in electronic mail messages to indicate emotions. Since the reader of your mail message can't see your facial expressions or body language, it is easy have your message misunderstood.

The most common emoticon is the Smiley Face  :-) and thus emoticons are also referred to as smilies.

To see the smiley face, tilt your head 90 degrees to the left. The colon ":" becomes the eyes, the dash "-" becomes, and the right parenthesis ")" becomes the mouth. Some other examples are the Sad Face   :-(     and the Wink  ;-) If you make the mistake of accidentally forgetting an important smiley, picking up the phone and placing a ten minute call will often save you from days of writing email explanations.

Acronymnsor shortcuts as they are sometimes called are used in email. Use them sparingly.
