English 092

5 credits

Dr. Chase's sections of English 092 are hybrid sections. A wiki (pbworks) is used for all course work (http://pbworks.com), Angel is used for grades and attendance (http://onlinecampus.csn.edu/default.asp); other technology is used as needed, but students meet in the classroom. The textbook is "Basic Grammar and Usage" by Penelope Choy and Dorothy Goldbart Clark, eighth edition.

We use this text as a springboard for composition - including blogs, digital stories, formal composition, and other written work.

"As I reflect upon my writing ability before taking this class, I can honestly say it has improved. Reading through my blogs I have noticed a change in my sentence structure and choice of words used. I can not say that I am an expert writer or a master of sentence structure. I can say that I can now recognize multiple problems in my own writing. By taking this class, I have received the tools necessary to correct mistakes in my own writing. I have also found that constructing a short essay is not as difficult as I had thought. By using a proper brain storm shell, I was able to organize my thoughts and was able to transfer them to paper. Working with the confusing words programs have also helped. As I was reading through my old blogs, I was able to see when and where confusing words fit into a sentence and how to properly use them. Many of the programs (mindomo, virtual reader and the class wiki) have really been a benefit while taking this class. Working from home was easier because of the internet. I really liked reading everyone else’s blogs; I was able to take some part of their writing form and apply it to my own form of writing. I am glad that I was part of the class and have learned a lot. I look forward to taking my newfound skills (however slight) and applying them while at work"

". . . it is fine if you want to add my name to it [the website]. Thanks for all the help in the class, and I hope that your future classes get as much out of your class as I did."
