ECE  121 Parent Caregiver Relationships 
A course designed for students in which they can acquire various communication skills to enhance parent/caregiver relationships.

ECE 123 Health & Nutrition for Young Children
Study Includes nutrition, health, safety, infectious diseases, first aid and preventive measures for accidents and spread of diseases. (1 credit)


ECE 153 Language Development  in the Preschool
Study of the Development of language in preschool children.  Exposure to activities and materials  for fostering development of receptive and expressive language skills in the preschool. (1 credit)


ECE 154 Literature  for Preschool Children
Survey of books, puppets, drama, storytelling, for use with preschool children.  Techniques of storytelling and reading will be examined.

ECE 155 Reading Readiness in the Preschool
The development of learning activities and materials which augment and enhance the development of literacy skills in young children.  (1 credit)


ECE 156 Music in the Preschool Curriculum
Teaching techniques and music activities for young children.  Focus on listening, singing, rhythm and creative movement. (1 credit)


ECE 157 Art  in the Preschool Curriculum
A study of artistic/creative development.  Teaching techniques for supporting and enhancing artistic/creative development

ECE  158  Activities for Physical Development in Young Children.   A study of teaching techniques, materials and activities for supporting and enhancing gross motor development with a focus on both patterned and creative movement. (1 credit)


Professional Development Courses

EPD353 ORIENTATION TO ONLINE LEARNING (1 credit)


This course is designed to familiarize faculty with the requisite skills that students require in order to become successful in an online course.  The course acquaints faculty with the online class environment from a student perspective, and assists faculty who may have limited computer skills to improve their ability to work online.  Participants demonstrate their skill levels by demonstrating competencies in areas such as interacting asynchronously and synchronously, cutting & pasting from word processing files, sending assignments as attached RTF files, and other related online course skills.

EPD 357 Teaching and Learning in the Online Classroom Level I (1 credit hour)

EPD 358 Teaching and Learning in the Online Classroom Level II (1 credit hour)

EPD 359 Teaching and Learning in the Online Classroom Level III (1 credit hour)


This 3 course series introduces pedagogical principles, skills and strategies for
effective online teaching and online course management. Participants gain
hands-on experience in using web-based chat rooms, email and discussion
boards to increase student interaction in their online courses. Participants begin
revising course content for the web and developing activities and
assignments appropriate for specific disciplines. Course is taught within WebCT.

This 3 course series presents an overview of uses of integrating technology into the online classroom, including the use of the computer as a teacher utility; the use of application programs, selection and use of education software, and teaching strategies.

EPD 355 INSTRUCTIONAL DESIGN FOR ONLINE COURSE DEVELOPMENT (3 credits)

The online course introduces instructional design principles and relates the principles to the development of online courses. This course provides introductory information and application of skills and techniques necessary in the analysis, design, development, implementation, and evaluation of instruction The course is for educators and staff who are interested in instructional design principles that apply to online or Web-enhanced education.

EPD 354 STUDENT ASSESSMENT IN ONLINE COURSES    (3 credits)                                                                                              

The online course addresses various assessment formats that can be used for evaluating students in online courses. Assessment theory is explored, focusing on the applications to online education and the necessary adjustments needed when evaluating students in online courses. The course is designed to provide students opportunities to apply online student assessment concepts to their particular areas of interest in online course development. This is not a comprehensive course on student assessment, but rather deals specifically with the issues that are of most importance to online education.

EPD 356 SPECIAL TOPICS: TECHNOLOGY INNOVATIONS IN ONLINE LEARNING (2 credits)

This course introduces the emerging technologies for online teaching and learning. The list of technologies is subject to change based on professor discretion, as the course progresses, in terms of both additions and deletions of technologies. Technologies include: Web-Blogs, voice over Internet protocol (VOIP), Digital Video, and Podcasts

Introduction to the historical and philosophical foundations  and issues related to secondary schooling.  (3 credits) 20 hours of participation and observation in local secondary school is required.


EDU 203 Introduction to Special Education
Exploration of services and professional opportunities in the education of exceptional children.  (3 credits) 20 hours of participation and observation in local special education setting is required

The psychology of learning,  motivation, growth  and development, personality, dynamics and social adjustments.  (4 credits)


EDU 298 Introduction to Gifted Education
Study of  educational programs for gifted children, including identification, characteristics, history, philosophy and programming options.  (3 credits)


EDU 280 Valuing Cultural Diversity
Introduces pre-service educators to micro-cultures.  Cultural appropriate pedagogical practices, dimensions of  multicultural education and educational implications of diversity emphasized.  (3 credits)


EDU 210 Nevada School Law
This course is designed to acquaint prospective teachers with the legal aspects of  the school setting.  (2 credits)

This course will provide an introduction to classroom management, lesson planning, and student behavior.  (3 credits)

An introductory course addressing the math and science curriculum and tutoring strategies for assisting in the classroom.  (3 credits)


EPD 114B Assisting with Lang Art/Lit Instruction
An introductory course addressing the language arts curriculum and tutoring strategies for assisting in the classroom.  (3 credits)

This course will provide experience with technology commonly used in the classroom.  (3 credits)


EPD 117B Understanding Special Education
An overview of the basics of special education, including the IEP, IDEA, and related services.  (3 credits)

A course exploring the basic principles of diversity in the schools and strategies for teaching diverse learners. (3 credits)


Praxis Review Courses


EPD 162 Praxis I Review: Reading
Overview of Reading skills related to the Praxis I that would assist the student in learning and applying these skills to successfully complete the Praxis I exam. Education majors are required to pass Praxis I exam before completing their degree program. (1 credit)


EPD 163 Praxis I Review: Writing
Overview of Writing skills related to the Praxis I that would assist the student in learning and applying these skills to successfully complete the Praxis I exam. Education majors are required to pass Praxis I exam before completing their degree program. (1 credit)
