Big Bands
Performance ensemble will perform standard and new big band Jazz literature. Emphasis on sight reading, improvisation, and ensemble playing. Consistent attendance and participation in public performances mandatory. May be repeated for credit. Prerequisite: Admission by audition only. Limited to instrumentalists.
Chamber Chorale
The Chamber Chorale is a select ensemble which performs works for small vocal ensembles from each of the representative musical time periods. The ensemble presents concerts on and off campus during the semester. The popular Renaissance Madrigal Dinner is performed bi-annually.
Rehearsals are scheduled on Monday and Wednesdays from 12:30 to 1:50 in the Recital Hall, Room 1430. Students in this ensemble are expected to have some ensemble singing experience. Auditions are held the first day of the semester.
Jazz Singers
The CSN Jazz Singers provides auditioned members an opportunity to sing a variety of jazz styles from traditional to contemporary arrangements. This group maintains an active performing schedule throughout the Las Vegas Valley and is accompanied by a professional rhythm section. Solo opportunities are also available each semester with the Vocal Jazz Solo Night Concerts. The Jazz Singers have performed with Las Vegas headliners, Barry Manilow, Clint Holmes and Dee Dee Bridgewater.
Rehearsals are scheduled on Tuesday and Thursdays from 12:30 to 1:50 in the Recital Hall, Room 1430. Auditions are held the first day of the semester. For more information contact Dr. Wherry at 651-4529.
College Choir
The Concert Choir, also known as College Singers, is open to anyone who would like to sing. The choir consists of 60% college students and 40% members of the community. The ages of the members vary widely from high school students to retirees. The ensemble performs a variety of literature from classics to Broadway. The College Singers also perform in the Renaissance Madrigal Dinner with the Chamber Chorale. Rehearsals are scheduled on Thursday Nights from 6:30 to 8:30 in Room 1432.
Concert Band
The CSN Concert Band, conducted by Dr. Richard McGee, is a community-oriented performing ensemble that also serves CSN music students as a serious performance outlet. Founded in 1990, the Concert Band is a CSN music course, MUSE 111, for which students receive one credit upon satisfactory completion. Rehearsals are Tuesday evenings at 7:30p.m., in Cheyenne room 1432. A wide range of college-level music for band is rehearsed and performed, including works by such composers as John Phillip Sousa, Alfred Reed, Vincent Persichetti, Gustav Holst, and many more. A least three concerts per year are performed. Students may register for Concert Band without auditioning; however, placement within the band will be determined after the first rehearsal. Prospective band members should be proficient on their instruments, and able to read advanced band literature.
Jazz Combos
Exploration and performance of small group jazz literature with improvisation. May be repeated for credit.
Orchestra
Rehearsal and performance of orchestral music of all periods. Required participation of scheduled performances. Audition required. May be repeated for credit.
Percussion
A percussion ensemble performing musical repertoire varying from classical to jazz and pop selections. Audition required. May be repeated for credit.
Steel Drum Band
A performance based class intended to provide the student with a general knowledge in the art of playing steel drums and percussion instruments related to the steel drum band
