Junior Division
Las Vegas Music Teacher Association
(LVMTA) Award

First Place
Jennifer Wang, a native of Las Vegas, is a straight 'A' fifth grade student. She has been taking piano lessons for three and a half years with Mr. Jie Bu at Music & Arts of Las Vegas. Jennifer won two First Place Awards in both "Silver State Competition" and "Young Musicians' Festival" in 2004. She won First Place in the 9-10 year-old category at the 2005 "Bolonini Scholarship Competition."
        Jennifer is also an excellent in G.A.T.E. program at school. She enjoys playing the piano and also enjoys reading, ice-skating, swimming, chess, and art. She has a broad interest and passion for nature and animals. She won two First Places in art competitions last year. Most of all, she is a superb sister. She spends a lot of time with her little sister, Katie.
Music World Award
Second Place
Victoria Young was born on February 2, 2000 in Las Vegas. She was recently moved from Kindergarten to First Grade at David Cox Elementary School. At four she began to learn how to read music with her mother and took private lessons from Ms. Boon Tain Ooi for five months in Malaysia. Soon after she came back to the United States and started to take piano lessons from pianist and pedagogue, Mrs. Damaris Alvarez. Under Mrs. Alvarez's guidance, Victoria's piano playing technique and musicianship improved amazingly.
        Victoria loves to compose her own songs which she calls 'master piece.' She comes from a family of artists. Her grandfather was a famous artist in Reno, and her dad used to play the violin. Besides music, Victoria has a great talent in art. She was the Artist in Exhibition in the Nevada Housing Division's Arts Competition. She also writes and illustrates her own books. Apart from that, Victoria loves ballet, playing with friends, and dressing up like a princess. Last but not least she loves playing 'Let's Tickle Daddy' when she is at home.

First Place
Jane Jing Zhu is currently a sophomore attending Clark High School. She started learning piano under the guidance of Michelle Le, and then briefly transferred to Yu Shu Pei. Presently, she is being taught by Jie Bu, her teacher of four years. Jane has competed in various competitions such as Silver State and the Liberace Play-A-Like Contest. Last fall, she participated in the MTNA competition in Reno and received Honorable Mention. In this year's annual Bolognini Competition, Jane won First Place in the 14-15 age category.
        In her spare time, Jane likes to read, draw, and study photography. Her interests mainly surround music and the arts. Jane is involved in many extracurricular activities at school such as Key Club, JACL, and as a board member in Japanese Club. Currently she has become interested in teaching piano as well. In the future, Jane would like to study architectural engineering, photography, and piano as her career.

Piano Galleria of America Award

Brandon Kiss was born on June 1, 1993 in Redmond, Washington, into a family of musicians going back many generations in Hungary. He began his piano studies with Janet Ty in Las Vegas at the age of seven. Since he was nine years old to the present, Brandon has been studying piano with Polya Bankova. He has performed at Silver State Competition in 2005 where he won First Place in piano. In 2006 he achieved Honorable Mention at Bolognini Competition, and in March 2006 Brandon was accepted to participate in the Green Valley Chamber Festival to take place this coming August. Brandon's goal is to continue his music studies through college and to become a musician.

Senior Division
Southern Nevada Music Award
First Place
Omar Ubri was born in 1988 in Santa Domingo, Domincan Republic. He began receiving piano lessons from his father, Mr. Alipio Ubri, at the age of ten. He was later admitted into the "Elementary School of Music-Elila Mena" to study piano under the guidance of Professor Ivan Dominguez. Omar also studied for a year at the National Conservatory of Music with Professor Maria Irene Blanco. After receiving a full scholarship at the "Dina Studio for Musical Education" Omar resumed his piano studies with Professor Ivan Dominguez once again.
        Omar has received numerous awards and recognitions. Last year he was First Place winner at the "Latin-American Piano Competition" celebrated annually in Caracas, Venezuela. On two different occasions Mr. Ubri has won Second Places in that competition, and has been awared medals as well for Outstanding Student at the "National School of Music Elila Mena." In the near future Omar hopes to continue his music studies in the U.S. or Europe. To fulfill his dream of becoming a professional musician, he plans to obtain a Bachelor of Music degree.

Southern Nevada Music Award
Second Place
Scott Hand was born in 1988 in Fort Worth, Texas. He began studying piano at the age of thirteen while living in Shreveport, Louisiana. That same year he was accepted into McNeese State University Governor's Program for gifted children. He spent four summers at GPGC studying piano with Keith Chamberlain and music theory with Rod Lauderdale. After moving to Las Vegas in 2003, Scott was accepted into the Las Vegas Academy of Internation Studies, Performing and Visual Arts, where he is a piano major. At the same time, he began studying with his current teacher, Voltaire Verzosa.
        Scott has received Superior Ranking in the Clark County and Nevada All-State Solo and Ensemble Competitions. As a piano accompanist, he traveled with the Las Vegas Academy Wind Ensemble to Indianapolis for their performance at the prestigious Bands of America Festival. Scott also plays the euphonium and guitar, and is an avid student of the French language.
