Dental Hygiene
Admission Requirements and procedures:
· Graduate of accredited dental hygiene program
· Completion of AS Degree or equivalent in Dental Hygiene (Students
transferring with an associates degree or equivalent from an accredited dental
hygiene program will have that degree counted as
fulfilling CSN's lower division general education requirements)
Students are required to fulfill the US/NV constitution requirement.
· Current Active Dental Hygiene License
· Minimum cumulative GPA of 2.5 for dental hygiene coursework
· Student may only enroll in upper division courses after admitted to the
Bachelor
of Science Program. (or with permission of Program
Director)
· Students may enroll in one or more classes each semester
Length of Program: Program can be completed in a minimum of one year (with fall enrollment) with student attending fulltime. Students attending part time are expected take a minimum of 2 hours a semester. The normal completion time for students attending part time is 2-3 years. See Course/class schedule for course offerings.

Admission Process:
Step 1: New CSN Students: Complete General College Application

CCSN/CSN Graduates: Complete Name and Address Change Request Form
Step 2: All: Complete Limited Entry Application for BS Dental Hygiene
Step 3: New CSN Students: Submit official transcripts from all
previously enrolled colleges or universities to Admissions & Records office

Education Focus
· DH 418 Advance Education Concepts - 2 credits
· DH 428 Clinical and Laboratory Teaching - 2 credits
Final Two Courses in Degree Sequence

BS Degree Dental Hygiene and Core Curriculum
Courses can be taken in any sequence
GRADES
All DH classes must be passed with a letter grade of "C" or
better. If student fails to earn a "C" or better, he/she will
have to repeat the class. DH classes will not give a grade of ”incomplete" for courses not completed. All DH
classes must be completed during the semester in which they were
registered. If student fails to complete a class, he/she will have to
repeat the class. Capstone classes must be passed with a 90% competency.

Course Descriptions
DH 400 Group Dynamics and Human Relationships 3 credits
Emphasis on interpersonal, intrapersonal, and group relationships. Students
will develop
skills in communication, leadership, and team building. Prerequisite: Admission
to
Dental Hygiene Bachelor of Science Degree Program.
DH 402 Public Health and Special Populations 2 credits
Historical and evolutionary concepts of public health. Exploration
of social
responsibility and population characteristics. A basic
knowledge of working with special
populations in Public Health. Prerequisite: Admission to Dental Hygiene
Bachelor of
Science Degree Program.
DH 404 Research Methodology 2 credits
Fundamental and working knowledge of the scientific method employed in oral
health
research. Critical analysis of research. Utilization of scientific research and supporting
evidence-based publications. Prerequisite: Admission to Dental Hygiene
Bachelor of
Science Degree Program.
DH 406 Health Care Administration 2 credits
Introduction to health administration, evaluation of settings, and interventions.
Emphasis
on dental care in the
Prerequisite: Admission to Dental Hygiene Bachelor of Science Degree Program.
DH 408 Teaching Concepts for the Oral Health Professional 2 credits
Introduction to the basic concepts of teaching. Includes
teaching philosophies and
methodologies. Emphasis on units of learning, learning objectives, and
lesson plans.
Prerequisite: Admission to Dental Hygiene Bachelor of Science Degree Program.
DH 410 Cross Cultural Communication in Health Care 3 credits
Help students understand multi-cultural differences by integrating various
cultural
beliefs and attitudes with language skills. Prerequisite: Admission to
the Dental Hygiene
Bachelor of Science Degree Program
DH 412 Dental Public Health Administration 2 credits
Foundational concepts of leadership skills as applied to oral health programs,
program
management, legal, financial and ethical considerations. Communication with the
grant
writing process is presented. DH 402 and Admission to Dental
Hygiene
Bachelor of Science Degree Program.
DH 418 Advanced Education Concepts 2 credits
Emphasis will be placed on curriculum planning and implementation. New
classroom
technology will be emphasized. Prerequisite: DH 408 and Admission to
Dental Hygiene Bachelor of Science Degree Program.
DH 422 Oral Epidemiology and Biostatistics 2 credits
Principles and methods of epidemiologic investigation and the use of classical
statistical
approaches to describe the oral health of populations. Prerequisite: DH 402
and Admission to Dental Hygiene Bachelor of Science Degree Program.
DH 428 Clinical/Laboratory Teaching 2 credits
Provides students with knowledge and skills in clinical instruction. Psychomotor
skill
development and analysis and remediation of performance problems are stressed.
Includes seminar and clinical application.
Prerequisite: DH 408
and Admission to Dental Hygiene Bachelor of Science Degree Program.
DH 440 Capstone Seminar I 2 credits
Provides opportunity to develop action plan to solve a problem or meet the
needs within
one of the respective professional tracks. Prerequisite: Completion of DH core
courses and
Admission to Dental Hygiene Bachelor of Science Degree Program.
DH 442 Capstone Seminar II 2 credits
Provides opportunity to implement action plan developed within one of the
professional
tracks. Final Course in BSDH Program. Prerequisite: DH
440 and Admission to Dental
Hygiene Bachelor of Science Degree Program.
PHIL 302: Intermediate Reasoning and Critical Thinking 3 credits Designed to extend the theory and practice of reasoned argument by the analysis, evaluation and reconstruction, and construction of extended examples drawn from such fields as philosophy, literature, religion, natural and social sciences’, the arts, or contemporary affairs. Prerequisites: PHIL 102 or consent of the instructor and Admission to Dental Hygiene Bachelor of Science Degree Program
PHIL 311: Professional Ethics 3 credits
A study of the nature of ethical thinking and its
application to judgments about actions of
people that make up society. Topics to be considered include ethical
relativism, moral
virtues and vices, foundations of morality, alternative theoretical
perspectives on moral
judgment egoism, altruism, and legal and regulatory perspectives related to
ethics in
business. Prerequisite: Instructor approval and Admission to Dental Hygiene
Bachelor
of Science Degree Program.
EPY 303 Educational Psychology 4 credits
General principles, theories, and recent research evidence regarding human
development,
human learning and human motivation, especially as they pertain to classroom
instruction. Prerequisites: PSY 101 or SOC 101 or ANTH 101 and Admission to
Dental
Hygiene Bachelor of Science Degree Program.
ENG 333 Professional Communications 3 credits
A course in applied rhetoric for students to develop
the writing and communication skills they will need as professionals. The
goal is to make strong writers with flexible analysis, writing and oral
communication skills. Prerequisite: ENG 102 and Admission to the Dental
Hygiene Bachelor
of Science Program
TRANSFER OF CREDITS
It is the student's responsibility to apply for transfer credit by filling out the transfer credits application form. Students transferring with an associate degree or equivalent from an accredited dental hygiene program will have that degree counted as fulfilling CSN's lower division general education requirements.
Transferring Credits 
In general, transferring from one institution to
another can be a challenging experience. The receiving institution will always
determine which credits will transfer.

It is also advised that you keep the course syllabus, assignments, and copies of tests from each class you take. If you are ever put in a position where you must challenge the evaluation of CSN credits, you will be prepared. As previously mentioned, a CSN Catalog is the most important resource for this process.

Incoming Credit Evaluations:
To determine what credits will be accepted at CSN, please request that all
institutions you have previously attended send official transcripts to:

It is also suggested that you request a copy for yourself. Transcripts
received by CSN become part of your permanent record. You must then apply
for an official evaluation through the Admissions and Records Office.

credit evaluation will be mailed to you.
