Nature of Work Patient registration representatives work in the patient registration area of a health organization. They are responsible for interviewing patients to obtain the necessary information to treat and process insurance claims for payment. Patient registration representatives enter patient information into computer systems. Accuracy in data entry is critical to the patient and the healthcare organization. Patient registration representatives representatives are generally employed at the following locations:
Employment in a healthcare organization provides the opportunity for stable employment. Patient registration representatives can be employed full-time, part-time, or per diem. Average hourly salary ranges average between $10-$12. Yearly salaries range between $20,800 - $25,000. Program Description The HIT and OA courses are offered in the spring and fall. Some are offered during the summer semester. Check the current semester schedule to verify this information. Register for classes by following the registration instructions listed in the front of the schedule. After successful completion of these courses, the student will receive a Certificate of Completion in Patient Registration. Please note that students must be able to show proof of health insurance, immunization against Hepatitus B, Measles, Mumps, Rubella, Varicella, Tetanus, and Diphtheria, a negative TB skin test, and a negative urine drug screen prior to starting HIT 107B - Patient Registration Practicum. An official background check is also required. The website for the official background check is www.precheck.com. The cost for the background check is approximately $50.00. Certificate of Completion Course Requirements Career Guide and Approximate Costs Admission Requirements The CSN Patient Registration Certificate of Completion is an Open Entry program. Therefore, an application for admission is NOT required. However, there may be course restrictions or course prerequisites.
