Reflexology Specialist

Nature of Work

Reflexology is a hands-on technique used specifically for the purpose of stress reduction.  Using the fingers and thumbs, specific techniques are used to apply pressure to the feet, hands, and ears of the client to induce a state of deep relaxation.  This "Relaxation Response", as named by Herbert Benson, promotes physiological changes that result in the normalization of body functions such as improved circulation, normalized respiration and stabilized blood pressure.

Reflexology is one of the fastest growing complementary therapies in the field of holistic health practices today.  Spas all over the country, including those in our own valley, provide reflexology treatments to their clients as a standard service.  A Reflexology Specialist has the option to be self-employed or may choose to be employed by another health care professional such as a chiropractor or holistic health practitioner.  Typically a person in private practice may charge anywhere from $25-$65 per hour.  This fee is variable and is determined by the individual practitioner.  It is also common for a practitioner to adjust their rates according to a "sliding scale".  Spas may start a practitioner at a payment of 30-40% of the charge for a reflexology sessions, or may pay the practitioner a flat rate of $25-$35 per hour.  The same wage rates that apply to practitioners working in a spa are also applicable to those employed by a chiropractor or holistic health center.
