The World Wide Web, also called "the web" or "WWW," is a computer network which allows you to access information on computers around the world by using an Internet browser. One of the main features of the Web is the ability to link quickly to other information.

Caution is advised when using web sites for college
research since some web sites contain information that is inaccurate, incomplete, outdated or deliberately misleading. As a result, many college instructors do not want you to use just free web sources, but require library resources that have information written and selected by experts. Access to CSN Library research databases is available only to current CSN students with valid student ID numbers and passwords.

Good reasons to use the World Wide Web:
  • the latest news and information: www.cnn.com, www.msnbc.com

  • search engines and subject directories like Google, Yahoo and Librarians' Index (www.lii.org)

  • government websites: city, county, state and federal

  • associations and organizations such as the American Medical Association, Professional Rodeo Cowboys' Association, or Sierra Club

  • college web sites such as CSN Library: www.csn.edu/library
