Search Tools You Need to Know

Library Catalog
is a searchable database with records for each item a library owns. These include records for print and electronic books, magazines, journals, newspapers, government documents, videos, DVDs and CDs.

Although the CSN Library Catalog can tell you if we own Time magazine or Journal of the Southwest, you can't use it to read articles in those magazines or journals—for that, use a research database instead.

Research Databases

are searchable indexes of articles from a selection of newspapers, magazines, and/or journals.

Some research databases, such as Academic OneFile or Proquest, cover a variety of fields, they're general or multidisciplinary.

Others specialize in a particular subject area, for instance: CINAHL for nursing articles or  Psychology and Behavioral Sciences, or History Resource Center, or Business Source Premier.
