Programming Emphasis - CSN
Career Opportunities - Students with knowledge of programming concepts are in demand. Graduates of vocational/technical programs are needed to fill jobs that previously required a Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science (see the programming careers for more information). Programming courses offered at CSN prepare your for lucrative job opportunities in various industries.
Knowledge of programming concepts is essential in obtaining programming jobs and courses such as IS115, CIT130, CIT131, etc. offered at CSN prepare you to acquire the necessary knowledge and programming skills. The IS115 course offered at CSN prepares you to acquire the necessary knowledge and understanding of basic programming concepts. Other programming courses allow you to build on this knowledge and become proficient in popular programming languages such as C, Java, C++, Visual Basic, etc.
10 Hot skills in 2009 - Programming skills is currently in 9th position.
Employment outlook - The Bureau of Labor Statistics estimates that number of people working in programming occupations will decrease by 5% between 2006 and 2016. Using the more conservative estimate of people employed in programming jobs in 2007, and projecting a loss of 4% over 10 years (and in the absence of any other projection that takes into effect the current recession), that would indicate a loss of 35 programming positions locally by 2016. However this does not mean that CSN graduates will not be able to find programming jobs since there will always be some openings due to natural attrition when programmers retire or take a new job elsewhere. In addition to providing language lessons for degree-seeking students, CSN supports our local community with instruction in four major languages: Java, C, Visual Basic, and C++ in addition to various web languages and RPG.
