This is a full semester 16 week iin class training
course in Networking . The objectives of this course are to provide
an understanding of the basic core concepts of Networking as well
as help students prepare for and pass a related Comptia certification
exam in Networking +. The course concentrates on the latest Comptia
Certification objectives. There are no pre-requisites to the course.
It is intended to be an overview and hence an excellent starting
point for any student who is possibly interested in networking,
or plans on further studies in any network related courses such
as Microsoft MCITP, CSCO, or Security Plus.
The course will use the college's software "Angel" to
provide practice exams, bonus exams and the core exams (Midterm
and Final). In addition, Video presentations on network concepts
will be linked to "Angel" and available to all students.
Videos will help student in understanding network theory and concepts.
When practicle, students will also have an opportunity to work on
some basic networking configurations as part of classroom hands
on exercises. These exercises are normally done in Virtual machines
using Server 2003 and Server 2008 along with a client operating
system such as XP or Vista. Hence, students will get an opportunity
to hone their skills working with all these operating systems. A
special session will be instructed on IPv4 and IPv6 addressing and
subnetting concepts. It is important that students grasp these concepts,
hence instructor time is allocated to teaching and understanding
these important network addressing techniques.
