 Professional Development Courses

These  courses indented for Slot Technicians that prefer a formal course  to learn new skills or as refresher courses on areas of repair that many technicians infrequently perform.   All of these courses require a basic understanding of DC and AC electronics, but there are no prerequisites required to simplify the registration process.   If you want a refresher courses on AC and DC theory CSN offers ET 131B DC for Electronics and ET 132B AC for Electronics during the fall and spring semesters.   We have offered two different academic professional development courses and are considering  additional ones.  We also offer a new and intense 3-Day industry style course.

LCD Repair Class: This is an 4-Day industry training class version of ET 206B with 2 Credits.  FEE: Under $190 for Fall 2011 (Fees very per semester, Charges for later semesters may vary)  .  This class replaces a commcial based class that ran for 3 very busy days and cost approximately $1500.  This new class has a 4-day schedule of 8 hours of class per day with an hour off for lunch.  During the four days of class  Students will discover how LCD panels work by learning the major functional blocks of an LCD monitor and perform troubleshooting exercises. Studendent will then echnicians will learn troubleshooting techniques and shortcuts by using block diagrams and hands-on lab exercises.  Then the class will learn about LCD Inverter Power Supply and SMPS Troubleshooting. A significant part of this class is devoted to lab time performing tests.  

ET 206B ST: Video Monitor Theory and Repair - 4 CREDITS  FEE: Under $350.00 for Fall 2011 (Fees very per semester, Charges for later semesters may vary)  Covers the theory, operation, repair, and troubleshooting of CRT displays, LCDs, and the power supplies which are found in most CRT and LCDs. The hands-on labs will include troubleshooting on equipment from various manufacturers. This course is designed for students who have completed courses on DC and digital electronics or have at least 2 years of electronic experience. This course can be repeated for up to a total of 4 credits.

ET 198B ST: Power Supply Theory and Repair 3 Credits   FEE:  Under $350.00 for Fall 2011 (Fees very per semester, Charges for later semesters may vary)  The course covers the theory, operation, troubleshooting, and repair of unregulated, series linear and switching power supplies. A basic understanding of DC circuit theory and a rudimentary understanding of AC from work experience is recommended for students of this course. This course can be repeated for a total of 3 credits.

 NOTE:  This class is usually run as an accelerated 8-week class that starts at the middle of the semester. For the Fall semester it would start about mid-October.  If you are interested please contact us at slots@csn.edu
