CNA BUNDLE 1
This 8-hour course will cover the following areas:
CNA Response to Basic Emergencies: The C.N.A. Role in various emergency situations will be presented: (such as heart attacks, strokes, seizures, falls, natural disasters, client elopements, fires, electrical emergency situations, etc) (3 hours).
Death & Dying: The C.N.A. role in the care of the dying or terminal patient and the family will be presented. Alternative modalities will also be presented. (2 hours).
Brainstorming Blood Pressure: Forget what you thought you knew about taking blood pressures. Proper procedure based on new evidence-based practice is discussed. The benefits and disadvantages of different types of blood pressure devices are also presented. (2 hours).
Elder Abuse: Recognizing physical, sexual, and psychological abuse in the elderly, especially with compromised mentality is especially difficult. This course will assist in recognizing the signs that suggest the need to report to authorities. The process of reporting will also be reviewed. (1 hour).
CNA BUNDLE 2
This 8-hour course will cover the following areas:
Principals of Infection Control & Use of Personal Protective Equipment: Center for Disease Control guidelines for handling infections in the facility will be reviewed. There is a lab with this course to assist participants in proper use of personal protective equipment. (3 hours).
Importance of Basic Oral Hygiene & the Role of Biofilm: The relationship between oral biofilm and diseases of other parts of the body are discussed. Proper oral hygiene for a variety of patients is also presented. There is a lab with this class. (2 hours).
Latex Allergy & You: The origin of latex and how that impacts the development of sensitivities in patients and medical workers is presented. Recognition and prevention of latex sensitivity is presented in this course. (1 hour).
CNA BUNDLE 3
This 8-hour course will cover the following areas:
Principals of Nutrition & Fluid Balance: Recognizing a well-nourished and well-hydrated elderly person is not easy. This course will review proper nutrition and fluid status for the elderly and concisely present tools to aid in evaluating the diet of the elderly. Special diets for specific conditions will be reviewed. (3 hours).
Protecting the Patient’s Skin: The anatomy of the skin is reviewed and the impact that lack of care can have for the patient. Decubitus ulcers are presented as one of many problems in the care of the skin. (1 hour).

This 8-hour course will cover the following areas:
Legalities & Ethics for CNA’s: This course reviews the C.N.A. scope of care in Nevada, Federal Mandates (like EMTALA), JCAHO Standards of Practice, Code of Conduct for CNA’s, and professional boundaries. Violations like Torts-Intentional and Unintentional will be discussed (Negligence, Theft, False Imprisonment, Physical Restraints, Invasion of Privacy, Fraud, Assault & Battery, Harassment, & Abuse. OBRA Act of 1987 is reviewed and Patient Rights discussed. (2 hours).
Recognizing Potential for Violence in the Workplace: In this course the participant will be able to recognize how a facility can lead to violence, identifying the subtle clues that anger level is rising in a patient/family member, how to react to an actual violent episode (threat of eminent danger- guns, knives, explosives), how to respond to a bomb threat. (3 hours).
Domestic Violence/Anger Management: Current frequency and severity of domestic violence is discussed. Recognizing the signs and symptoms of an abusive family situation is presented. Techniques for controlling personal anger and defusing anger in patients and family members are also presented. (3 hours).
SKILLS LAB REVIEW—SESSION A & B
Session A Class 1: Refine and perfect “hands-on” patient care skills. We welcome nursing and nurse assistant students, new Nursing Assistant graduates, C.N.A. employees who need remedial training, care givers and personal care assistants. Each participant will be able to select up to four tasks to practice with certified C.N.A. instructors. Focus of this session will be handwashing, bedpan, ambulation, position changes, vital signs, weight, passive ROM, oral care and pivot transfer technique. Validated skill sheets can be provided for employers. (4 hours)
Manual Skills Review Session B Class 2: Focus of Session B will be hand-washing, perineal care, catheter care, partial bath, hair and nail care, foot care, denture care, making an occupied bed, dressing and undressing skills and feeding. Validated skills sheets can be provided for employers. (4 hours)
